Where did it start?

HistoryIn 2004 members of the local Rotary Clubs, Lowestoft South, Lowestoft, East Point, Gorleston and Beccles, started working together to form a Sailability Centre as their Millenium Rotary Project. As a result, Waveney Sailability Ltd was formed in early 2005.

From those early days of just a few members we've grown to nearly 100 sailing members with disabilities and almost 50 volunteer helper members. Waveney Sailability is managed and run entirely by volunteers.

Our sailing fleet consists of Access dinghies and Squibs. See our Sailing page for more detailed information on these.

We also have two powered Safety Boats which are on the water at each sailing session.

What happened next..

Our BoathouseDuring those early years we relied on friends with a bit of space to store the boats over the winter - we needed a home of our own.   Having secured some funding, and again with generous donations and hard work from our members we were able to build own own boathouse.  The picture above shows Geoff Holt unveiling the sponsorship board at the Boathouse opening in May 2009.
